After 3 months in hospital with severe case of COVID-19, 29-year-old St. Louis-area man returns home –

Josh Miller, 29, was near death in St. Luke’s with COVID-19. On Friday, he returned home after months in the hospital.

St. Lukes cardiothoracic surgeon Jeremy Leidenfrost led Joshs care team, and he quickly realized a breathing tube wouldnt be enough to keep Josh alive.
Within a day, hospital staff put him on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, or ECMO, a technique that siphons blood out of a patient, oxygenizes it and pumps it back into the body, essentially replicating lung functions to give them time to heal.
