EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) — El Paso County shattered a pandemic record Thursday morning. Health officials announced 1,161 new cases and four coronavirus-related deaths.
The number of active cases increased to 9,406, which is a new record.
Hospitalizations dipped slightly from 578 to 571. However, the number of ICU patients increased to 159, an all-time high.

Anika Chebrolu, 14, was named the winner of the 2020 3M Young Scientist Challenge, a competition for middle school scientists. The eighth-grader’s project won her a $25,000 cash prize.
